What is more important to you ..love or respect ?

I can’t love you till you  respect  me, I can’t  respect you  until you love me.. and so it goes on. Do we all mean the same thing when we talk about love and respect ? Does your partner know what respect looks like to you and do you know what love looks to your partner ? Part of the problem we have in  understanding each other in relationships is that we don’t tell each other exactly what we need. We asked some of our readers which is more important to them between  love and  respect. These are some of their responses..
THE BOYS
43 year old married father of  2Love.. for it conquers fear, and covers a multitude of sin . When love prevails respect follows, naturally !Love if selfless will always put  others before self. It is willing to give more than it takes and will only see the good in others more than the bad.
45 year old married father of 2: Without respect love cannot blossom. Love is the icing on the cake of  respect. I can love my cat or dog but I respect and love my spouse. Respect is the foundation for a lasting love . The two are  ingredients in the cake but you need 2 parts of respect to 1 part love.
48 year father of 3: The two are complimentary , where there is love there is respect. In a family set up love cannot exist where there is no respect and respect cannot exist where there is no love
38 year old, married father of 3: Love, if you love you cannot disrespect !
44 year male, unmarried, no kids: Respect is love to me. Show me that you respect me as a man and treat me as someone who matters to you then I know you love me. Simple
38 year father of 2: Love is the mother of all  ingenuity . If you love someone albeit differently you are bound to genuinely respect them. A relationship where you are trying to respect someone you don’t  love will not last .
43 year old, married father of 2:I choose love over respect because I see respect as a by product of strong love . In my view one should seek love first  and respect will come naturally—without love any respect there is will not stand the test of time

THE GIRLS
39 year old, single mother of one: Love, because for me you get both ..I can respect my partner but not like him but  I can’t love my partner and not respect him at the same time, the two go hand in hand
33 year old single female, no kids: I will go for  respect because it’s not a flimsy feeling and will not shape-shift whenever my partner feels like it. I want a man that I can respect and who can also respect me too ..the love thing is a nice to have !
30 year  old , stepmother: The two are interlinked, love comes with respect . If my hubby respects me then he truly loves me . Love without respect is vanity so I   prefer respect.
31 year old single female , no kids: Love because it  covers all . If someone loves me then respect is given. I would find it hard to respect someone I don’t love.
37 year, married mother of two: I believe that  respect is a product of love.  At this stage in my life I want to see love in  action as true respect.
35 year old, married mother of two:  Love &   respect come together, if you love me you have to      respect me  and my opinions. You can’t love someone and not respect them.
41 year old single mother of 2 : I prefer respect above love because in the long haul when it’s said and done the fuzzy feelings of love will fade but if there is  respect the relationship will stand.
